Catherine Ann Bosworth A.K.A Kate Bosworth is a young Hollywood actress who has played many notable roles in movies like The Horse Whisperer and Blue Crush. She recently played Lois Lane in the superman movie Superman Returns. She spent most of her childhood traveling throughout the United States, including San Francisco, Connecticut and Massachusetts. She got her big break in 1998 when she received a casting call from Robert Redford for the movie The Horse Whisperer.

Catherine was born on January 2, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. She was the only child of Hal Bosworth, an executive for Talbot’s, and Patricia (Potter), a homemaker. She was born with sectoral heterochromia, resulting in a hazel section at the bottom of her right blue eye, while the left is completely blue.

She sang at country fairs and was in the community theater production of "Annie." However that was not the end of being in the spotlight. After getting a taste of the spotlight she auditioned for a movie and was casted as the leading girl's best friend in Robert Redford's 1998 movie "The Horse Whisperer."

She had a nomadic childhood because of the nature of her father’s work. She left San Francisco at the age of six and lived in several places. But she mainly grew up mainly on the East Coast, spending the rest of her youth in Darien, Connecticut and Cohasset, Massachusetts. Later in an interview she said that because of the frequent relocations of her family, she always felt like the "new girl in school". She also remembers that she was shy and unpopular because of this.

She attended Cohasset High School and graduated from there in 2001. It was during that period she learned to speak Spanish. She played soccer and lacrosse and was a member of the national honor society.

After graduation she auditioned for the role in Horse Whisperer and she did it just for the experience, she never thought she would make it to the movie. But she did and was surprised when she received the call from the producers. After this, Kate took 18 months off because she was afraid that having an early film career would take away from the fun of being a child and went back to her sports where it is said she played varsity soccer and lacrosse and is a champion equestrian.

She later returned to acting with a T.V series ‘Young Americans’. After ending the show Kate signed for movies like ‘Remember the Titans’ and ‘The Newcomers.’ After this she starred in the movie ‘Blue Crush’ in which she portrayed a young surfer who wants to be a top surfer and prove her talents in a man’s sport. The movie got hot raved reviews all over and won Kate a few awards.

After Blue Crush, Kate got a role in "The Rules of Attraction" by Roger Avery which co-starred "Young Americans" Ian Sommerholder as well as James Van Der Beek and Shannon Sossymann. Not long after Kate made her big screen flash with "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" and "Wonderland" both getting great reviews.

In 2006, after several screen tests and competition with other actresses, she won the role of Lois Lane in the much anticipated superman movie ‘Superman returns’ which made her a true international star. She starred along with her Beyond the Sea co-star Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, as well as newcomer Brandon Routh as Superman. A sequel to Superman Returns is planned for a release in the summer of 2009.

Bosworth recently signed a psychological drama called The Girl in the Park in which she is playing Louise, a trouble young girl. In early 2007 she completed a film called 21 which is the film adaptation of the book ‘Bringing down the House’. She is also bound to play a role in the supernatural thriller ‘After life’. Apart from all these, she recently bought the film rights to Catherine Hanrahan's novel Lost Girls and Love Hotels, about a young woman looking to escape in Tokyo's seedy nightlife.

Bosworth previously dated actor Matt Czuchry, whom she met on the set of their short-lived television series, Young Americans. Their relationship lasted from 2000 to 2002. Then, in late 2002, she began dating actor Orlando Bloom. They separated in 2006.
